On
Saturday at 11 a.m., members and friends of UU Lakeland will meet in the church parking lot to carpool to this year's
Lakeland Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade, which begins at
1 p.m. at the corner of
14th Street and Kathleen Road
in Lakeland. As we have every year for more than a decade, UUCL members
will march behind the Congregational banner to demonstrate our
commitment to Dr. King's vision of justice and equity.
If you
cannot manage to walk the parade route, you can still participate by
riding in the UUCL car, which will follow the marchers to accommodate
those with disabilities (or just tired feet!). Please bring poster
board, markers, and support sticks to create both signs you can carry
and decorations for the vehicle. Also, since weather forecasts call for
a 60
percent chance of rain, be sure to bring rain gear just in case.
Also this weekend, you can participate in these other UUCL events:
Saturday:
9 a.m. Choir Practice, Sanctuary.
Sunday:
10 a.m. Adult Discussion Group, Social Hall. This week's topic: Friendship and memories of special friends -- what does it take to make and keep friends?
11 a.m. Sunday Service,
featuring the Songs and Stories of Bill and Eli Perras. Join our guest
presenters for a special intergenerational service, featuring a special
collection to aid the victims of th recent earthquake in Haiti.
12:30 p.m. Visibility Committee Meeting,
Social Hall.
Join in efforts to promote UUCL to the larger community, and learn
about exciting initiatives such as our participation in Lakeland's
First Fridays.
2 p.m. EarthFamilies Evensong Gathering,
Sanctuary. This month's Craftwork service deals with astrological birth
charts. Bring your birth date, time and location, and receive a
complete chart.
I hope to see you this weekend.
In faith,
Rafi
