UUC Lakeland

A Newsletter, A New Year, and a Singing Holiday Service

Dear Friends and UUCL Family,

July 1 starts a new church year, and this letter marks my first official act as the new President of UUCL. You can read more about the other changes in officers in my column, Presidential Ponderings, in The Beacon newsletter, which will be posted later today.

As we begin this year, I extend my personal thanks, as well as the thanks of the congregation, to all of the officers, committee chairs, interest group coordinators and volunteers who serve us. Without their hard work there would be no UUCL.  I am looking forward to continuing our work and growth together.

Included in thanks is everyone who will be helping with this Sunday's special holiday service. We are having a Patriotic Hymn Sing, come lend your voice to our songs and fill your ears with the sounds of music.

That's only one of the opportunities at UUCL this weekend, here are some others:

Friday July 2

6pm - 9 pm First Friday Join us in Lakeland's Munn Park as we share information about UUism . Volunteers are always needed to help answer questions, pass out literature and present a special children's activity; if you're available, please contact Visibility chair Melissa Marshall at melissa@net-man.net. Even if you can't volunteer, plan to stop by and join the fun!

Saturday July 3

7 pm* Games for Grown-Ups, Social Hall: Word games, cards and other diversions are the order of the evening when the Games group holds its monthly get-together. You can bring a game and snacks if you wish, or just show up to enjoy the bounty others have offered. For more information, contact Jane Eskenazi at 864.682.8869

*This is a test of a new time,is it better for you?

Sunday July 4

10 am Adult Discussion Group, Social Hall.   What are the best things to teach our kids as they grow up?

11 am Sunday Service, Sanctuary.   Come join us for a special holiday treat! With the very talented Adam Hargrove at piano, we will select patriotic songs and hymns to sing. Bring your best voice, and maybe a friend!

12 noon Coffee and Conversation, Social Hall/Patio.   Linger after service for fellowship and goodies, provided by the Hospitality Committee.

2 pm EarthFamilies Evensong Gathering, Sanctuary.  This month's Group Study is a discussion of “The First Triad: Druid Symbolism” from The Druidry Handbook by John Michael Greer.

Happy Independence Day to everyone!
