July 27, 2008 Dear Parents of RE Children and Youth, Our world is full of diversity- what a wonderful thing! This year, we will be exploring religious diversity in UUCL’s Religious Education program. Our theme for the year is "Many Windows, One Light: Our Journey to Discovering the World’s Religions and Philosophies". UU’s draw knowledge and inspiration from the world’s religions- we consider them to be a part of our "sources". It is important that our children learn about these sources to help them build a solid religious foundation which embraces and understands diversity. We will explore many different religions in many different ways- stories, crafts, music, celebrations and more! Furthermore, we will be making the connection between these religions and our UU values. In addition to our regular RE classes (10 a.m. Sunday mornings) we will also be visiting other places of worship (churches, synagogues, temples) at varying times. It is also my hope that we will continue to be very active in making a difference in our community by participating in social justice and other service activities. You will be notified about these trips and activities as we draw closer to them- parents are encouraged to participate, too! Also, make sure to check the Beacon for the dates of our Intergenerational Services. We will be having them once a month and they will further reinforce the religions that we are studying with the children. Not to mention that they will be fun and inspirational for all ages! I look forward to seeing you and your children on August 17, 2008, 9:30 a.m., for our RE Welcome Breakfast. We will be filling out registration forms, getting acquainted (or reacquainted), and having a delicious, and perhaps "diverse", breakfast.
